April Fool's Virus?

So I was on my ~Ted-Kasane (https://www.deviantart.com/ted-kasane) account a few minutes ago, and I saw that a couple other RPers had journals up about this virus called "Conficker" that's supposed to go into effect tommorrow (it will, from my limited knowledge, basically make your computer go batshit insane and DIE). I was about to dismiss them as early April Fool's jokes, but when I read the journals over I found that reliable news sources like Fox News, Yahoo!, ABC have apparently been talking about it for two weeks already. There's even a last minute survival guide on Yahoo!, if you don't believe me. http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/null/132464 I don't watch the news as much
